Thanks to everyone for the calls, texts and prayers for my oldest son. He is a Marine stationed in Hawaii and when something like this happens, it's a little close to home for me. Thank God my son is ok, but I'm still asking for prayers for the families impacted by this tragedy.

The Hawaii Coast Guard is carrying out a search and rescue operation after two military aircraft reportedly collided in mid-air and then ditched in the water north of the island of Oahu.

The two helicopters were from the nearby Kaneohe Bay US Marine Corps Air Station, and each had six people on board.

My oldest son is stationed at this base. He is rarely, if ever, on a helicopter, but I ask you to keep him and his fellow Marines in your prayers. Moms and Dads across our country will be getting that dreadful visit today. My heart breaks for them.

Rescuers arrived to the scene just after midnight, after multiple reports of the crash, and found debris, an empty life raft and fire on the water, some 2.5km from the coastal settlement of Haleiwa.

No survivors or bodies have been located so far.

The search and rescue operation could be hampered by waves forecast to reach up to 40 feet  high - predicted to be the largest swell of this year's season.
