It begins at 9:30 a.m. Friday, August 19, at St. Mary of the Pines Catholic Church, located at 1050 Bert Kouns in Shreveport. Bishop Michael Duca will host the mass honoring area law enforcement officers, firefighters and emergency personnel.

The service is open to everyone who wants to come out to show support and express appreciation for the women and men who sacrifice so much every day they're on the job to serve the people in the Shreveport-Bossier community.

The first Blue Mass within the Diocese of Shreveport was celebrated in 2002, and this mass remains an important yearly event in our area. Along with honoring these critical personnel, the Blue Mass allows the opportunity for people to pray for their safety and pay special remembrance to all who have fallen in the line of duty.

Residents can use this opportunity to pray for law enforcement officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge who were ambushed by people intent on targeting police.
