200 artists including:  composer Hans Zimmer, R. Kelly and members of the Go-Go’s, the Black Crowes, Linkin Park and Three 6 Mafia filed a brief with the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals because they were concerned about the ruling in the case brought by the family of Marvin Gaye, who filed a lawsuit for copyright infringement claiming Thicke's hit, “Blurred Lines” copied Gaye’s “Got to Give it Up.”

Backing for this appeal stems from the fear that this ruling could have, “adverse impact on their own creativity, on the creativity of future artists, and on the music industry in general.”

In the aftermath of the case, Gaye’s children won a $7.4 million verdict, which a judge reduced to $5.3 million.
