The C-17 Globemaster III will be making a trip down south from Washington.

This year's Camping World Independence Bowl is set for December 26 at Independence Stadium in Shreveport with a match-up between Virginia Tech and Tulsa. This year's ceremonial flyover will feature a C-17 Globemaster III operated by three Airmen from the Eight Airlift Squadron at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.

Shift your eyes to the sky following the National Anthem to take it all in.

The C-17 is used to rapidly deliver cargo and personnel around the globe to support combat and humanitarian relief operations. In the past it's been used to transport paratroopers into combat drop zones and has evacuated wounded warriors as air ambulance. The Independence Bowl flyover will be piloted by Captain William Booth, the assistant director of operation for the Eight Airlift Squadron.

This year's flyover will honor the 2015 Omar N. Bradley "Spirit of Independence Award" recipients, the Berlin Airlift Veterans. The lineage of the C-17 includes the C-47 and C-54, which transported Airmen to deliver food and fuel to Berlin citizens between June 1948 and May 1949. These efforts helped break a Soviet blockade in the city.

Although it's not the B-52 that Shreveport-Bossier is known for at Barksdale Air Force Base, it will still be a sight to see.
