Shreveport police are investigating a shooting that sent a 4-year-old boy to the hospital over the weekend.

Just before 9:00 last night, patrol officers were called to the emergency room of University Health, where the boy was taken after suffering a gunshot wound to the hand. A parent told police the two were walking near the intersection of Dupont Street at Fairy Avenue, when they saw a group of males arguing.

Soon after they passed the group, they heard gunshots. That's when the parent found the child had been shot. The little boy is expected to make a full recovery.

Patrolmen found evidence at the scene consistent with witness statements. It's believed the child was struck by a stray round fired during the alleged argument. No suspects are in custody so far. Police continue to investigate, and ask that anyone with information call Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373.
