"All I wanted to do was go home and have a meal cooked by grandma", the 7 year old told her dad. A second grade student in the Houston area made it home safely after writing her own excuse note to skip going to the after school program in order to catch a ride on the bus to get home.

Houston's ABC 13 broke the story saying she wrote the note and gave it to the staff of the after school program, who allowed her to catch the bus home. The staff did not realize something was suspicious about the note. After closely looking at it, it was obvious it was forged not only because of the hand writing but spelling too. The staff accepted the note and sent her on to catch the bus home. The girl made it home safely but once there, she couldn't get into the house because it was all locked up. She waited for a while and then needed to use the restroom and ended up at a neighbors house where they contacted her dad. After learning about her situation, but realizing she was safe, Mr. Dahu said,

"I was shaking, I was scared, I was just glad to see her in good health and that nothing happened to her."

After reuniting with his daughter and looking at the note she turned in to the staff, he had this to say about the note,

"You can clearly see she did not even spell the word bus right?"

The school district released the following statement about the incident:

Sheldon ISD is currently investigating the situation. We are reviewing our training procedures to ensure that our after-school grant program staff is properly trained in dismissal procedures. As we move forward, the district is working to make sure that all of our after-school grant staff receives the same training as district employees. At this point, the district is continuing to investigate and will take proper disciplinary action. As always, student safety is our top priority.
