Since Shreveport  has come to be referred to in show business circles as 'Hollywood South', we thought it would be fitting to take a look at a few of the major entertainment personalities born right here in our state.

So, how many of these major stars did you know were from our part of the USA?

1) Jared Leto  Born in Bossier City, Leto is an Oscar nominee for this year's odds on Best Picture favorite, "Dallas Buyer's Club"

2) Ellen DeGeneres  A New Orleans native, Ellen is a one woman conglomerate with a top rated talk show and an endless line of commercial endorsements. And she'll be hosting this year's Academy Awards.

3) Reese Witherspoon  Who knew that this Best Actress Oscar winner ("Walk the Line") was born in New Orleans?

4) Harry Connick, Jr.  Not only is American Idol judge Harry a star in his own right, his Dad, Harry Connick, Sr., is a New Orleans political legend.

5) Tyler Perry  Another NOLA guy, this talented actor, writer, producer and director is most famous for his "Medea" character and string of hit movies.

6) Tim McGraw  This country music superstar - he's sold more than 40 million albums - is originally from rural Richland Parish, east of Monroe.

7) Patricia Clarkson  Yet another NOLA native, she's one of those "I know her, but I don't know her name" actresses. Clarkson co-starred with Kevin Costner in "The Untouchables" and won an Emmy for the HBO series "Six Feet Under".

8) John Laroquette  One more Crescent City guy, he won an unprecedented four straight Emmy's for his role on "Night Court". He now splits his time between acting and motivational speaking.

9) Donna Douglas  Born Doris Smith in the small town of Pride (near Zachary), she's parlayed her role as Elly May on "The Beverly Hillbillies" into a fifty year career of commercial endorsements and personal appearances.
