I know what you're thinking. C'mon Gary, it's still early July and the bass are biting. We're still fishing, what are you doing writing about hunting season?

The answer is pretty simple.  Dove season is literally only 2 months off and archery season for whitetails will start about 4 weeks after that, and here in Louisiana, if you were born on or after September 1, 1969, you must successfully complete a Hunter Education Course in order to hunt.  And the time for that is starting to run out.

If you need to squeeze that in as soon as possible, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries website, there are several classes slated in the coming weeks here in the immediate area.

Here’s a quick look at some of those classes:

Thursday, July 20 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm AND Friday, July 21 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm AND Saturday, July 22 from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm at the Plain Dealing Community Center

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, August 8, 9 and 10 from 6:00 pm until 9:30 pm each night at the Knights of Columbus on Buncombe Road in Shreveport

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday August 9, 10 and 11 from 6:00 pm until 9:30 pm each night at the Barksdale Air Force Base Natural Resource Center

Hunters can also take the Official Louisiana Hunter Safety Course Online HERE but must still complete an official LDWF sanctioned “Field Day.
