Soaring outdoor temperatures caused air conditioning in parts of C.E. Byrd High School to become inoperable last night and into this morning.

Superintendent Lamar Goree has decided to dismiss students early from the campus on this first day of a new school year.

Students will be served lunch in two shifts, then be dismissed at 1PM. District staff has repaired the A/C unit, but it will take a little time to cool down the facility.

Normal activities will resume tomorrow morning.
