Louisiana State Police are touting a collabrative effort that led to the arrest of an Alexandria man and a seizure of nearly $2 million worth of narcotics.

Master Trooper Scott Moreau said 37-year-old Derrick Felton was arrested Friday after a month-long investigation into illegal drug activity.

Though police had search warrants for several Alexandria residences, Felton was arrested during a traffic stop. In Felton's vehicle was a large amount of illegal drugs and cash.

After his arrest, the warrants were executed at several locations. The massive loot of drugs with a street value of $1.7 million included:

  • Approximately $1.5 million worth of crystal methamphetamine (over 64 lbs.),
  • Over $120,000 worth of heroin (over 2 lbs.)
  • Over $100,000 worth of cocaine (over 2 lbs.)
  • Over $3,000 worth of promethazine with syrup (five pints)

    Felton's list of charges include:

    • Possession with the intent to distribute CDS I (heroin)
    • Possession with the intent to distribute CDS II (Cocaine) and (crystal meth)
    • Possession with the intent to distribute CDS V (promethazine syrup)
    • Resisting arrest by flight
    • Failure to signal lane change

    Agencies involved in and responsible for this investigation are Louisiana State Police, Alexandria Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI Central Louisiana Safe Streets Task Force), Louisiana Probation and Parole, United States Postal Inspector’s Office, Pineville Police Department, Louisiana Army National Guard Counter Drug Unit, the Rapides Parish District Attorney’s Office, and the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office.

    "This is a prime example of what happens when law enforcement works together," said Colonel Mike Edmonson, State Police Superintendent.  "The Louisiana State Police stand committed to work with all of our law enforcement partners to pursue those who promote illegal narcotics in our communities."

    Moreau said the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are likely.
