All the Things the Ark-La-Tex Wants Their Young Adults to Know About Growing Up
The beginning of a new school year can be difficult. It doesn’t matter if it is the first year of high school, college, or that first day in the “real world”, at some point you have to look ahead. What do you want out of the future? What’s the plan? What is next?
When I was in high school it was such a weird concept to think that in just a few years I have to become a responsible “adult”. Now as an “adult”, I realize I have no idea what I am doing. None. I wish someone had given me a handbook on Adulting 101, but that doesn’t happen.
So I asked some folks right here in the Ark-La-Tex what advice they could give someone who is becoming an adult.
Just to list off a few of the comments:
“Be selective with your time. There will be people who come in and out of our lives and there will always be apparent signs that they are either temporary or long lasting. Spend time with those you know are going to be there for you and want what’s best for you.” -Kerri
“Having more faith in myself. Even though something may seem out of your own reach and maybe there is a certain path ppl lead you to take to get to where you want to be doesn’t mean that’s the only way. Make your own path, find your own direction, and don’t be so afraid to chase after what you want! You could achieve it faster than you thought with your own path. Just have faith in yourself!” -Wyatt
“1.Keep your faith close to your heart.
2. Don’t let your job run your life.
3. Tell people you love them every chance you get.” -Victoria
“Not being serious about my credit. I got any credit card I could and maxed it out…took me years to pay it all off. Could’ve bought a house a long time ago if it wasn’t for that.” -Kristen
I think the best advice I could give is to welcome change. Change is good.
To all of our young adults in the Ark-La-Tex, use these tips however you wish and don’t forget that you have a community that supports you.
