I got my start in radio when I was just 16 years old in Texarkana, AR at Y102 FM. How did I get my start in radio? Well, that is kinda a funny story!
I was dating the “Rock n Roll Clown” who was on the air at Y102 and I frequently visited him while he was working. He taught me how to run the board and play the records (Yes! We actually played 45’s and 33’s on turntables!) One night while I was visiting I discovered I was not the only one “dating” the Clown! Well a discussion was had and he got mad and left the radio station! I just kept on playing music and following the commercial log. After a couple of hours I decided Bozo wasn’t coming back. So I picked up the studio hotline and called his boss J Bob Stroud, he asked me if I knew what I was doing and I being a teenager of course knew everything! He told me to finish the show and come see him in the morning! I did and the rest is history.
I spent a couple of years at Y102 before moving up and down the dial in Texarkana working at KADO, KTFS, and KLLI before landing my first job in Shreveport in 1989 at KITT. It was in January and the first week that I was on the air Bossier City was hit by a deadly tornado! And there I was sitting on the second floor of a glass building at 710 Spring street! Our weather service called and told me to announce that a tornado had touched down in Bossier. I immediately did as I was told. As soon as I closed my mic the phone rang it was a local TV news weatherman who proceeded to tell me I didn’t know what I was talking about and I should shut up and quit scaring people then he hung up on me!
Well if you were in Bossier in ’89 you remember we did have a deadly tornado! The Emergency Broadcast System alarms went off not two minutes after the guy called and yelled at me and all stations in Shreveport began announcing the tornado and do you know that weather guy never bothered to call me back and apologize?
I also moved up and down the dial here in Shreveport leaving KITT to go to work for Howard Clarke and Larry Ryan at KVKI. I went to 98 Rocks and worked with Tom Michaels and Kevin West before settling at Fun Radio TUX 99 with Shotgun Ken Shepherd. My kids were starting school then and I decided to take a break and spend more time with them while they were young and I left radio to work in the school where my children attended.
I totally enjoyed being able to see my kids everyday at school and go on all the field trips! But now my children are teenagers and it is not so cool to have mom at school with them anymore. So I have returned to my passion… Radio! And I love it!

A Wooley Booger Mistake
If the U.S. Census can’t even get the Mayor of Shreveport right, can we really trust them to count how many people are in Shreveport? Major funding hangs in the balance as a two-year period to challenge 2010 census results starts today, and Shreveport — which fell below its goal of 200,000 residents — likely will make a case...
