With as many school shootings as we have had recently, it's quite understandable that some administrators tend to over-react a bit in their quest to keep kids safe.  Who can blame them?  Trying to keep all of your kids safe in today's world could lead to decisions like random searches, metal detectors, stricter rules and more.  Whether you agree or disagree with arming teachers, it's easy to see why such extreme measures are being considered.

That being said - it's hard to understand why a 5th grade, Autistic student was arrested for playing with an "imaginary rifle."  Yet, that's exactly what happened in Texas last week to David Sims.  The 12 year old was arrested at Bozman Intermediate School in Conroe for brandishing the make-believe weapon in art class.  David's teacher felt threatened, according to the report from Fox 26 Houston, and reported the disturbing behavior to school officials.  David was immediately placed in handcuffs and taken to the Montgomery County Juvenile Detention Center.

His mother, Amy Sims, says that he is being discriminated against because of his disability.  David was released into his mother's custody and will complete the school year in an alternative school.  Montgomery County Attorney J.D. Lambright says that due to his age and disability, criminal charges will likely be avoided.
