The Bossier City Fire Department kicks off its annual school fire safety program next week.

They begin at 8:30 a.m. Monday, October 3, at Kerr Elementary on Airline Drive. Each year during October, the Fire Prevention Bureau takes its fire safety message to all Bossier elementary schools. Their multimedia presentation is made up of a puppet show, video presentation and appearance by Freddie the Fire Truck.

The program runs in conjunction with National Fire Prevention Week, which begins October 9 this year. The theme is on the importance of smoke alarms and is entitled 'Don't Wait - Check the Date! Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years.'

Mayor Lo Walker will be at Monday's kick-off to present a proclamation recognizing October 9-15, 2016, as National Fire Prevention Week in Bossier City.
