Remember a couple of weeks ago when a hundreds of listeners - mostly WESLA Credit Union customers - received fake phone calls from a so called 'security department' trying to get their credit card numbers? Well, now there’s a new scam targeting cell phone users going around with “one ring” calls. The calls are coming from places such as Jamaica, Antigua, The British Virgin Islands and Grenada and if you call them back it becomes a pretty hefty charge.

According to the Better Business Bureau, these calls are $19.95 for the international call, then an additional $9 per minute.

Erin and I had a number of listeners get these calls, but luckily, none fell victim to this diabolical, money grabbing attempt.

Remember, if you think you're getting a call of this nature, don't answer and don't call back! In fact, it's probably better not to answer a call from a number you don't know. Be safe with not only your identity and credit cards these days, you must also be cautious with your cell phone usage. Common area codes with this scam include 268, 809, 876, 284 and 473.
