A bill that would prevent members of the LGBT community from being turned down or fired from jobs based on their sexual orientation has made it out of committee and now can be considered by the full Senate.  New Orleans Sen. Troy Carter authored the bill and says "There are people day in and day out in this country, in this state, in this city, in this building, who are being discriminated against for whatever reason.", adding, "As a black man, I might still be caught in the trap of discrimination that is still there, but at least I've got recourse."

Lake Charles Sen. Ronnie Johns voted against the proposal, saying it could pose problems for business owners in our state, stating "There are some problems with the bill from a practical standpoint of owning a business. I own a business, and there are no discriminatory polices in my business I can assure you of that."

We're all waiting for the obligatory "In fact some of my best friends are black.........and gay.......and stuff......"

The bill now moves to Senate floor for full debate.
