Blake Shelton to Return to ‘The Voice’ for Season 4
It appears Blake Shelton has agreed to return to the hit NBC reality singing competition ‘The Voice‘ for its upcoming fourth season, despite his misgivings that the show takes time out of his own busy music career.
Shelton has publicly complained — on multiple occasions — about producers’ decision to shoot back-to-back seasons, frustrated that being tied up by the show may make it impossible for him to maintain his status as a country star.
“I don’t know how much longer I’m even going to do it,” he said in an interview earlier this month, adding that all of the judges were weighing their obligations to the show against the need to go out and tour to promote their own new music. “If we want to tour, there’s not a chance of that doing back to back seasons. That’s not acceptable to me.”
Still, it appears for now that the ‘Drink on It’ singer has decided to stay put in his big red chair. He is confirmed to return for Season 4 along with Maroon 5 front man Adam Levine, while fellow coaches Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera have opted out of the next season because of other commitments. Usher and Shakira have been announced to take their places as coaches in early 2013, but both Aguilera and Green plan to return to ‘The Voice’ for its fifth season.
As for Shelton, his visibility on the insanely popular series hasn’t seemed to hurt his career any; he received four nominations in the upcoming 2012 CMA Awards, including the coveted Entertainer of the Year.
