The Bossier Parish Police Jury has shut down Bodcau Dam Road because repairs are needed to the dam.

Greg Raimondo with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District tells KEEL News the issue isn't high water, and there's no danger to residents. He says the problem is that the slides are close to the road.

"Think of it as a right triangle, as it slopes out. And just think of that right triangle just trying to turn. As it turns, the bottom of the triangle wants to come up," Raimondo said. "So what you're really, in essence, doing is trying to load that 'toe' so that it can't slide and rotate like that."

The fear is that, if it's not fixed, it could lead to the road bed collapsing or asphalt being torn up, so the Police Jury has shut down the road until repairs can be made. But engineers need a decent stretch of dry weather to begin.

"The guys tell me this is gonna be this way for a while," Raimondo said. "They're not gonna be able to work on this until things dry out this summer." He said rain we're expecting Thursday isn't helping matters any.

Until the work is complete, motorists will need to detour onto Highway 157, which is an extra two miles.
