Bossier's "In God We Trust" rally at the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Substation drew more than 2,000 people for the 4th of July.

The crowd showed up to celebrate our country and support the Bossier Sheriff's Office's Young Marine Program. The event was first held in 2013 and came about after Sheriff Julian Whittington refused to remove religious verbiage from the youth program's pledges.

After Whittington went public with that decision, donations have been flowing in to cover the costs. The sheriff showed off a check for more than $137,000, representing all of the money raised to date from within the community and around the nation.

The Bossier Press Tribune reports this event is expected to grow each year.
