Members of the Bossier Sheriff's Posse were sworn in last night at the Viking Drive Substation.

According to a Bossier Sheriff's Office news release, eight of the men were new members who completed their training this week. The regimen included communications, radio procedures, driving and various crime scene and patrol functions. The group also learned how to manage funeral escorts and accident scenes.

The new recruits will join nearly 200 other posse members, men aged 50 or older who are Bossier Parish residents and volunteer their time to assist paid deputies.

"I really appreciate the dedication of these men," said Sheriff Julian Whittington. "They exemplify community spirit at its best, volunteering their time to help keep Bossier Parish one of the best places to call home."

Anyone interested in joining the Posse is encouraged to call 318-965-3500.
