It's never too early to learn how to take care of yourself.

Brian Wheeler is from Bossier City and he's an incredible young man. He's been on such a journey at such a young age. Looking at him now, you see a super healthy and strong young man, but it wasn't always that way for Brian. He used to be much heavier.

Until his friend introduced him to CHRISTUS Strength.

This program, funded by Children' Miracle Network Hospitals teaches kids how to take care of themselves with exercise. For Brian, that resulted in a 60 pound weight loss. That's a lot of weight to lose for anyone, but what Brain gained is so much greater. He gained absolute confidence and as we all know, confidence is necessary when trying to navigate the halls of junior high and high school.

Brian even thinks he sees a future in competitive powerlifting.

This is huge considering that Brian originally hated exercise. He tried to play sports to remain active, but found the cardio aspect to be more of a chore. One of the reasons he fell in love with weightlifting is because it's something that he can do at his own pace. He also finds it enjoyable.

CHRISTUS Strength teaches kids ages 8 and up the basics of wellness while empowering them to become stronger mentally and physically. The sport of powerlifting is also an individual sport that boosts their confidence in themselves. The program also allows these kids to compete in Olympic-style lifting competitions.

And, as Brian says, "It's a lot of fun."
