Locals gathered to honor Bossier Sheriff's Office Assistant Chief Rudy Crain at a funeral service in Haughton.

According to a BSO news release, Crain fought a short but valiant battle with cancer, but lost his fight July 31 at age 64. Deputies and troopers walked the funeral procession from Central Assembly of God in Haughton on Highway 80 across the street to Hill Crest Memorial Park.

Crain graduated from Fair Park High School in 1969 and his career in law enforcement spanned several decades. He started with Louisiana State Police, where he retired from Troop G as Executive Officer. He was also Security Manager/Director at several local casinos before moving to the BSO to become Assistant Chief of Corrections.

Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington promoted Crain to Corrections Chief when he took office in 2012. At the service, he talked about how Rudy always took care of 'his people' in the Corrections Division, which is where about half of all the sheriff's office employees work.

"Rudy Crain was more than a co-worker, he was friend to me and all here at the Bossier Sheriff's Office," Sheriff Whittington said. "I'm going to miss you, my friend."
