Not all fishermen lie, but only liars fish.  Bet you've heard that one before.  Just like the one about teen drivers not being the safest drivers on the road.  And just like those lying fishermen, not all teen drivers are the worst, but their inexperience behind the wheel still poses a possible threat to others on the road.

Having a son who had a terrible auto accident back in November, this one is near and dear to me.  He wasn't drinking, wasn't texting, but his inexperience navigating his way in a driving rain ended with a near fatal accident.  Thank goodness his passenger wasn't injured and he didn't hit another driver.  However, the potential was there.

Because of that, I can't urge you strongly enough, to have your teenager take advantage of the safety course that Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator will host next Tuesday, May 10 at Sheriff's Safety town.

This program will focus on the dangers of distracted and impaired driving and will cover all sorts of distractions including texting, cell phones and music.  It will also address different forms of impairment including alcohol and drug use.

Part of the course will include a dose of virtual reality where attendees will have the chance to operate an electric vehicle while wearing impairment goggles that simulate the effects of driving under the influence.

This class will be held May 10 from 4:00 pm until 5:30 pm and participants must have a valid driver's license or learner's permit.  The course is also limited to 20 participants, so pre-registration is required.

To register call Community Programs at 681-0875.
