Robert Downey Jr.’s ‘Doctor Dolittle’ Shifts Release to Avoid the Final ‘Star Wars’ Episode

Yes, Robert Downey, Jr. is definitely going to play Doctor Dolittle, the veterinarian who can talk to animals. Sure, fine, cool. And for those of you who are interested, there’s some good news: you won’t have to wait as long to see it, since the release date of the film has been pushed up a month to accommodate for Star Wars: Episode 9.

New ‘Wonder Woman’ TV Spot Gives Us Our First Look at Ares, If You Pay Attention

Up until a few months ago, we knew that Wonder Woman would take place during World War I, and that the primary antagonist was probably something metaphorical like the evils of war itself, but in January we learned that the main villain of the movie would literally be war, personified. Ares is one of Diana’s primary antagonists in the comics, and we actually saw a little bit of him in the short TV spot that director Patty Jenkins debuted last night.

‘The Circle’ Review: Almost as Bad as Social Media Is for Society

In the second act of The Circle (a film so poorly structured that it feels like it has five acts instead of three), Emma Watson’s painfully earnest protagonist Mae Holland decides to go “transparent” and have her entire life live-streamed around the clock, save for the occasional three-minute bathroom break. Throughout these sequences, CGI text boxes appear on screen to display viewer comments in “real-time,” with half-baked thoughts ranging from “I just ate cheese from last year” to “My girlfriend dumped me.” Those comments, often irrelevant and ineloquent, are the only part of The Circle that feels remotely relevant or clever…or entertaining. The rest, like the titular shape, is hollow.

Emma Watson’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Sequel Idea Sounds Quite Pleasant

Although the tale (as old as tiiiime) of Beauty and the Beast is a self-contained one with no existing basis for continuation, that hasn’t stopped Disney from considering the possibilities of a follow-up to their recent live-action reimagining — especially now that it’s earned over $1 billion at the box office, breaking a previous record held by the seemingly untouchable Star Wars. But while Disney has been mulling a potential spinoff or prequel, Emma Watson would rather see a direct sequel, and she’s already come up with a good starting point.

Somehow ‘Austin Powers’ Still Hasn‘t Turned a Profit

Now that Austin Powers has safely moved past its “overexposure through incessant quoting” phase, there’s a lot to love about the movie. The peppy flute theme from Quincy Jones, Myers’ screwloose double-turn as the International Man of Mystery and his pinky-brandishing nemesis, the kitschy ’60s-by-way-of-’90s design, it‘s all a pretty good time. (Not to mention that the tactfully obscured nude scene is a marvel of blocking and composition.) A recent oral history has gotten Myers’ most beloved comic creation back in the public eye, and amidst rumors that a sequel may be in the cards at some indeterminate point in the future, another surprising discovery has been made.

Johnny Depp Makes Surprise Appearance on ‘Pirates’ Ride at Disneyland

Johnny Depp needs some public image rehabilitation, and badly. When it came out last year that he had physically abused former spouse Amber Heard, a dark and sickly pallor was cast over the heretofore beloved actor’s profile. It isn’t helping that he hasn’t been in a good movie since 2011 (Rango, though Verbinski’s follow-up The Lone Ranger has its supporters), and hasn’t been in a really profitable one since 2014’s Into the Woods. The guy has to save a little face if he wants to secure his future in this business, and what better way to do that than to play to the only demographic unaware of his unsavory personal life: the youth!

Stephen King’s ‘Firestarter’ to Set the Screen Ablaze Once More With Upcoming Remake

The Overlook Film Festival just began its inaugural proceedings last night, inviting cinephiles and horror enthusiasts to take in some film with a singular location for a backdrop: the Timberline Lodge in Mt. Hood, Oregon, better known to you as the Overlook Hotel and the setting of Stephen King adaptation The Shining. One could scarcely imagine a scene more apropos for the revelation that another big King remake is in the works, so Blumhouse (you know, the studio behind every horror blockbuster of the last few years) head Jason Blum and director-writer Akiva Goldsman took full advantage of their unique surroundings for a major announcement. And in the immortal words of Nelly, it’s getting hot in here.

‘Guardians Vol. 3’ Will ‘Plant the Seeds’ for a ‘Decade’ of More Marvel Movies

Marvel is big on planning out their movies years and years in advance, and so far their Phase model has worked pretty well for them. It’s a good way for directors and screenwriters to plan out how writing and casting and shooting their movies is going to work, and a good way for Marvel to snatch up the prime opening days for all their blockbusters. James Gunn, who just announced he’d be back for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, says that movie will pave the way for a decade of more Marvel movies to come.

‘Captain America’ Director Joe Johnston Climbing Onto ‘Narnia: The Silver Chair’ Revival

While C.S. Lewis’ groundbreaking Chronicles of Narnia has seven books, Walden Media has only managed to make three of them into movies. Back in 2011 it didn’t look very hopeful for the series, as it seemed that their contract with Lewis’ estate had expired and not been renewed. But now everything seems to be in order, and The Silver Chair is on the horizon, chronologically the sixth book in the series and the first since The Magician’s Nephew not to feature the Pevensie children. Today, Captain America director Joe Johnston has announced that he’s taking the helm of the project.
