Christopher Nolan might be finished with his Batman universe, but that doesn’t mean he believes his characters should fade away. In fact, the director’s gone so far as to say — on the record – that Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman should keep the fire’s burning with a spinoff film.

Speaking with Access Hollywood about the possibility of Anne Hathaway’s Selina Kyle/Catwoman getting her own movie, Nolan proclaimed:

Anne is incredibly precise and articulate about the psychology of the character. She’s really built it from the ground up. It’s just a delight to watch her perform. The things she does in those heels is not to be taken lightly. She’s an incredible character and we’re very excited to see her and hopefully we’ll leave people wanting more.

You can practically hear the executives at Warner Bros. salivating at the prospects of a ‘Dark Knight’ spinoff. Just don’t expect Nolan to return to the franchise and possibly helm this potential film.

For me, Gotham and these characters, I’m done. I’ve told our story and I’m moving on. [But]I certainly think she deserves it, she’s incredible.

Everything we’re reading about ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ prior to its release seem to back up Nolan’s statement that Hathaway’s fantastic as Catwoman. (That, and Bane’s voice is terrible.) But do we need a separate Catwoman movie? Hollywood tried this, years ago, with Halle Berry in the lead. It tanked everywhere, except at the Razzies. Count on Warner at least exploring the option, but if Hathaway’s smart (and she is), she’ll avoid a spin-off that doesn’t have Nolan at the helm.
