Channing Tatum Eager to Portray Evel Knievel in Upcoming Biopic

With the box office hit, 'Magic Mike' still fresh in theaters, Channing Tatum is moving full steam ahead with talks of taking on the role of the legendary famed stuntman, Evel Knievel in a new biopic.Tatum has already had a successful year with both '21 Jump Street' and 'The Vow' both bringing in over $100 million in profits. 'Magic Mike' is expected to crack the triple-digits as well. With his career zooming full speed ahead, Tatum seems to be in pace to take on the role, as well as produce the project, alongside new "Fifty Shades of Grey" producers Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti.

The untitled film will be based on Life of Evel, Stuart Barker's 2008 biography on Knievel. Evel was born to his parents as Robert Craig Knievel, and began his stunt career during the 1960s. He performed the most death-defying stunts while sporting a patriotic uniform adorned with a superhero cape.

Knievel broke the Guinness Book World Record after suffering a total of 433 broken bones during his career, which seemed to plummett by the mid to late 1980's. He was most famous for his Snake River Canyon jump, which he failed, and for his saying to the folks on ABC's 'Wide World of Sports' after his crash at Wembley Stadium in England, "I walked in, I want to walk out." Mr. Knievel died in 2007 at the age of 69.

Tatum is set to star with Steve Carell and Mark Ruffalo in the film 'Foxcatcher' for director Bennett Miller next year along with spots in "Jupiter Ascending," G.I. Joe, Retaliation," and "The Bitter Pill."

An ambitious schedule for the former stripper turned actor, Tatum is up for the challenge. One has to wonder, though, since he performed his own dance moves in "Magic Mike," will he be performing his own stunts as the late, great Evel Knievel.
