The 2017 Cannes Film Festival lineup (announced earlier this morning) is stacked with some of our most highly-anticipated titles of the year, including new films from Todd Haynes, Sofia Coppola and Yorgos Lanthimos. The director of The Lobster has returned with The Killing of a Sacred Deer, which reunites him with Colin Farrell — who appears to be playing yet another sad sack for his second outing with the director, and if anyone knows how to make the most of mopey, schlubby Colin Farrell, it’s Lanthimos.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer stars Farrell as a charismatic surgeon whose decision to mentor a troubled teenage boy sends his life spiraling out of control. As you can see in the full version of the image above, it looks as though Lanthimos and Farrell didn’t change the actor’s appearance much (if at all) between The Lobster and their latest film. Here’s Farrell doing a sad Charlie Brown walk up some nice stairs:

I can’t be 100 percent certain, but it looks like Farrell’s still sporting that mustache.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer co-stars Nicole Kidman as Farrell’s wife and Alicia Silverstone (yes, really!) as the mother of the teenage boy. It’s also one of two films at Cannes starring Farrell and Kidman — the pair appear opposite each other in Sofia Coppola’s remake of The Beguiled.

Lanthimos’ latest, which he co-wrote with Efthymis Filippou (who also co-scripted The Lobster and Dogtooth), will premiere in competition at Cannes. It does not yet have an official release date, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed for awards season.
