"Dallas Cowboys release Jerry Jones!" That was the headline that spread like wildfire earlier today, sending Dallas Cowboys fans in paroxysms of both panic and joy.

The problem was, it's not real, another hoax headline and story put out by the satirical website 'The Onion'. The fake story went on to say that Cowboys management, tired of owner Jones incessant meddling with football operations for over a decade, had ousted the capricious owner.

The bogus story went on to say, " The decision to release Jones was influenced by the lack of any playoff victories in more than 12 years, the owner's distracting sideline antics, and his selfish, "me first" attitude."

Well, as occurs in today's "share first, confirm later" internet age, within an hour the tale had spread across Cowboy nation and beyond. And coming on the heels of yesterday's heartbreaking, last minute loss to Green Bay, most Cowboys' fans took the tale with more than a little joy.
