The City will keep its 15 "cooling centers" open through Friday even though the National Weather Service has lifted the heat advisory for most of the area.

Mayor Cedric Glover and his staff will evaluate the situation Friday afternoon to determine whether the centers need to also be open over the weekend.  The present forecast calls for temperatures to fall into the upper 90s but the heat index may still hover near 100 degrees.

The centers are available to anyone seeking to escape the heat. Cold water is distributed free of charge in a secure, air-conditioned environment.
