When I was growing up, my family owned a little cabin on the west side of Lake Bistineau where the lake bends. Our weekend retreat was nestled on a little embankment about 200 yards from Cryer's Camp. My Nonnie (maternal grandmother) lived up the hill, and I spent most of my youth in the water, the woods, or just anywhere a boy could be an adventurer.

Now, a good portion of my childhood memories are under water.

I remember the flood of 1991 very well. The water was lapping at the bottom steps to our cabin, but luckily, it never got in. This time, I don't even know.

After my parents passed away, the cabin was sold. I haven't been there in more than a decade, so I couldn't tell you if there is damage or not. However, this video, shot March 16, 2016 by Allen J.M. Smith of the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office shows an area of the lake just a few miles north. Judging by the devastation seen here, I can only imagine what it looks like at my old cabin.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people surrounding Rodger's Marina seen here, and to all of those affected by this disaster.
