I thought Byrd would win the rematch with Airline, but I didn’t think it would be quite this good a game.

The Vikings got a lead in the game, which forced the Yellow Jackets to come from behind for the first time this season. But that high-powered Byrd offense, powered by Senior QB Richard Carthon was a little too much for Airline. The Vikings also turned the ball over 5 times....that’s something you just can’t do against the Jackets. The final score: Byrd 35 Airline 24. Byrd gets to stay home and take on Rummel in the 5A quarterfinals
I am so sad today for the Parkway Panthers. They were at home to battle Mandeville. This was a game Parkway should have won. Quarterback Kolby Copeland threw for close to 350 yards and had nearly 100 yards rushing in a game that went into overtime. The Skippers scored a touchdown in the OT to go up by 7, but the Panthers roared back and also score. That’s when things went awry. Head coach David Feaster decided to gambling and go for 2 on a fake extra point attempt which failed. Mandeville moves on with a 1 point victory.

In the other 5A game we were all watching, Haughton was no match for powerful West Monroe. The Rebels rolled up 51 points to 19 for the Bucs. The Rebels take on more the Barbe Bucs next week on the road.
Minden falls to the top seed in 3A, Neville 44-22. But a big congrats this year to the Crimson Tide who won their district title this year.
In the 2A ranks, Calvary and Evangel could be headed for a showdown. Calvary got an easy win over Pope John Paul and next host University High from Baton Rouge.
The Evangel Eagles had no trouble with Homer, winning 78-22. The Eagles scored more than 50 points in the first half of the game! The Eagles stay at home next week to take on Catholic of New Iberia.
The Haynesville Golden Tornados are still in the hunt for a championship trophy. The Tors got a 31-29 victory over Christian Life in the 1A race. Haynesville now faces West St. John in the quarterfinals.
