The annual event is named in honor of Maggie Lee Henson\, one of two young people who died after a bus taking youth from First Baptist Church Shreveport to a summer camp crashed in 2009. Only 12 when she died\, Maggie Lee had a profound impact on those around her with her caring and generous spirit. Maggie Lee from a young age was very demonstrative with her faith. She heard Jesus' words about loving other people and did it\,” said her mother\, Jinny Henson. Caring is contagious and there are opportunities everywhere for us to practice loving others as we love ourselves. The Celebration of Caring Event will hopefully spawn even more good deeds\, becauseonce you give sacrificially\, expecting nothing in return\, you are never the same. And that change can't help but change our city\, country and world." One purpose of the Celebration of Caring is to reinforce our common bond of caring for one another. When caring persons get connected with one another\, we raise our own perception of our community as a good place to live. The more we become connected\, the better our community becomes\,” said TomWatts\, director of the Renewal Team for Community Renewal. Sponsor Red Ball Oxygen funds and provides personnel who work with other volunteers to make the Celebration of Caring the best event it can be. Community Renewal International is a nonprofit effort to restore safe and healthy communities through caring relationships. Founded in 1994\, Community Renewal reaches at-risk youth through Friendship Houses built in impoverished neighborhoods\, strengthens education through the Adult Renewal Academy\, partners with The Fuller Center for Housing and connects caring partners who turn their neighborhoods into safe havens of friendship and support. SUMMARY:SHOUT! Breaking the Silence though Creativity - Outreach's Maker's Fair
DESCRIPTION:The National Day of Silence is a day of action in which students across the country vow to take a form of silence to call attention to the silencing effect of anti-LGBT bullying and harassment in schools. Outreach - Centenary College of Louisiana's QSA is celebrating breaking the silence by holding a Maker's Fair and Art Show at Jones Rice Field at Centenary College. Below is information for vendors: How to Draw People to Your Maker's Booth SMILE!Seems silly but I see it happen every time- a Maker sits behind their booth waiting for someone to approach them. Your smile is just as important as your product. DEMONSTRATE!Customers love to see Makers in action and Makers who are able to demonstrate their craft draw in more customers. This doesn’t have to be complicated. Try to avoid anything that will not let you work with potential customers. SIGNAGE! Your space should have a sign. Draw people to your area with an easy to read sign. Since you will be bringing your own table\, you can test your sign before the day of the fair. Make sure potential customers can see the sign from at least 10-15 feet away. TOOLS FOR REPEAT CUSTOMERS! The following are suggestions to help you stay connected to your customers after SHOUT! • Your business cards • A clip board with a pen and paper to collect client addresses and email addresses • Information that includes any websites\, online stores\, or blogs where your work can be found. What will you need the day of the fair? DON’T FORGET YOUR CHAIRS! BRING PLENTY OF CHANGE ATMS is not nearby and not every bank is open in Saturday. Make sure you have plenty of change for your customers. Outreach is not able to make change for any Maker. KNOW THAT A WIRELESS INTERNET CONNECTION IS SPOTTY AT BESTif you are depending on any type of wireless connection\, it is very unreliable. Please have a back up plan. CALCULATOR\, PEN\, PAPER If you are not going to build in the applicable sales tax to your items\, a calculator will help to calculate taxes. Pen and paper may help with any notes\, scribbles\, and autographs. DRESS IN LAYERSMornings can be cool but may warm up quickly. Since meteorologists have a difficult time getting a forecast right\, dress comfortably and come prepared. Only 1 electrical space per Maker. No exceptions. Please let us know in advance if you have shelves\, racks\, or other displays that are taller than 3 feet. All proceeds from sales go to the individual vendors. Vendors are responsible for collecting and paying sales tax where applicable.
