A man who spent almost 30 years in solitary confinement on Angola's death row before being exonerated and released has died.

According to a story on NOLA.com, Glenn Ford learned he had lung cancer shortly after his release from Angola. He died early this morning at age 65.

Ford was convicted of the 1983 murder of Shreveport jeweler Isadore Rozeman, but he always denied killing him. The state vacated his conviction in 2014, and he was released from prison the next day. He had been the longest-serving death row inmate in the United States at the time of his release.

His family will hold a memorial service at the Charbonnet Funeral Home on St. Philip Street in New Orleans. No date and time have been set yet. Supporters are asking that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Ford's name to Resurrection After Exoneration.
