According to wired.com, executives at Facebook are super-serious about stopping fake news from polluting your news feed.  This after the heat came down from the public for not taking full responsibility for how it may have affected the outcome of the 2016 presidential election.  In these days where Facebook is all-powerful, it is even more important to monitor who is using this power, and how.

Measures have already begun to roll out.  It's all part of a strategy that combines crowdsourcing similar to how Facebook polices mature content, reliance on third-party fact checkers, and serious penalties for anyone caught slinging fake news.  One of the first lines of defense is you.  Soon, anyone can mark a Facebook post as fake news by clicking the "fake new" button in the upper right-hand corner of a post.  This will start the fact checking process that will hopefully eliminate some of the fakeness.  If only we could get reporters to do this before the story is released.
