Local law officers from six different agencies gathered to honor the memories of those brave officers, who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover and Bossier City Mayor Lo Walker took part in the Peace Officers’ Memorial Service with fallen officers’ family members. The service took place at Barnwell Center Garden in Shreveport.

The names of some 37 officers, who died in the line of duty, were read aloud, and the family members who represented their beloved heroes each received a rose from Shreveport Police Chief Willie Shaw.

Chief Shaw told me he’s known many officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect the community, and they should never be forgotten. He says it’s important that their family members know their fallen heroes didn’t die in vain.

The mother of slain officer, Richard James Davidson, told me she looks forward to remembering her son each year at the special Peace Officers’ Memorial. She said her son died at age 23, when he was shot at a local restaurant, while responding to a call.

“He died instantly…I’m thankful he didn’t suffer.”

The names of fallen officers in Caddo and Bossier Parishes went back as late as 1894, and as recently as 2,010, and many of the family members gathered to remember their lost sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers.

The touching ceremony was held at Barnwell Center Garden in Shreveport.

The agencies represented included Caddo and Bossier Sheriff’s Offices, Bossier City and Shreveport Police Departments, Louisiana State Police, and the Louisiana Wildlife and Game Fisheries.
