If you owe the federal government tax money, and have not yet managed to transfer those funds from your bank account to Uncle Sam's, your reasons for failing to pay up could vary as widely as "I think perhaps our elected officials are too stupid to have control of this money, and so I will refrain from making it available to them at this moment.", to something as simple and honest as "I wouldn't trust those morons in Washington as far as I could spit a rat!!",  However you view the single celled bacteria that infest our nation's capital, you have but two weeks left to see if the IRS and all those other alphabet agency's are prepared to call your bluff.  However, unlike most years, the deadline this year is not April 15th, (this writer's birthday and a day known not only for taxes, but also the death of Abraham Lincoln and the sinking of the Titanic), but April 18th, (a day which I'm sure little boys have a much easier time finding fun things to base a birthday party theme around). The reason?  April 16th is Emancipation Day, and for the good folks of Washington D.C., are celebrating on Friday, April 15th. It is a Federal Holiday.

The IRS spokesperson I interviewed agreed to speak with me on the condition I not reveal their true name or home town, as the last time they spoke in public representing the IRS,  hackers had their name on 'Do Not Fly' lists in every major airport. And so I promised the lovely Mrs. Lea Cusberg that if her Corpus Christi neighbors ever uncovered her true identity, it wouldn't be from me. She then went on to reveal that the IRS encourages electronic filing, because simply put, you're too stupid to doi it correctly otherwise. "It helps you with the math.", she said brightly, waiting to see if I was one of those would need the term 'math' defined as well.

On a more serious note for those us in Louisiana who were impacted by the flooding, if you live in one of the 30 parishes that were declared a Federal Emergency Area, you are allowed and in fact encouraged to to wait until after even the April 18th date, and can find information on how to do so at IRS.gov.
