Back in 2005 on January 6th, President Bush and his wife Laura, got a new dog they named Miss Beazley after the mean lunch lady in the Archie Comic strip. Miss Beazley is a Scottish Terrier ("scottie") just like the Bush's other dog, Barney.

That made me think of all the other First Family pets. Let's see, there's the new puppy President Obama and First Lady Michelle got for Sasha and Malia.

The first girls wound up with a black-and-white 6-month-old Portuguese water dog they named Bo after blues guitarist Bo Diddly.

The Obamas had talked about rescuing a dog from an animal shelter. But as it turned out, Bo came as a gift from Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass.

Buddy the dog and Socks the cat were the Clinton's pets.

The elder George Bush had Millie, the Springer Spaniel, and Ranger, one of Millie's puppies.

President Reagan had dogs Lucky and Rex and some other dogs and horses at the White House.

Grits was President Carter's dog. That actually seems to fit since he was from Georgia. President Gerald Ford had Liberty, the Golden Retriever, and Richard Nixon had Checkers the dog.

Have you ever noticed how much like their owners dogs look? Can't you just see President Richard Nixon in his dog Checkers? "I'm not a crook!" I see the resemblance. It's amazing.

This is the loveable dog that became famous after Nixon talked about him in one of his televised speeches.

It made Nixon appear more humane with a softer side, but he shot that image all to hell after his administration bugged the Watergate Hotel, leading to his impeachment.
