After winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase race at the European Championships in Helsinki, Finland, French runner Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad naturally got hyped. It was just too bad for the mascot that found herself in the middle of it.

As Benabbad was being followed by television cameras, the Championship mascot better known as “Appy” attempted to give hand a gift bag.

Underneath that uniform was a 14-year-old girl, but Mahiedine didn’t know that and he knocked the gift bag out of her hand and shoved her back. Isn’t that what everyone wants to do when they’ve just won something and are high on adrenaline?

This wasn’t Benabbad’s only instance of mascot-pushing during his running career as back in 2010, he pushed another mascot at those European Championships. You’d think he would’ve learned from the first time.
