A group of French researchers have found that wearing a bra actually makes women’s breasts saggier over time and advocate women stop wearing them altogether.

The study followed 330 women over 15 years and found that, contrary to popular belief, those women who went braless had stronger muscles and actually raising their breast levels slightly. Those who consistently wore bras, meanwhile, saw their breasts droop more than the women who went braless, and did not have any significant reduction in back pain.

The study focused on women ages 18-35, both child bearing and non. Researchers say it remains to be seen if those trends will continue as the women get older.
