Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover has declared Friday, October 10, as "Wear Purple Day" in the City of Shreveport to help raise awareness for the ongoing efforts to end domestic violence.

According to a news release from the mayor's office, the event is being coordinated through Project Celebration in conjunction with Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The public is invited to a news conference tomorrow at 10 a.m. on the steps of Government Plaza on Travis Street, and citizens are encouraged to wear purple as a show of solidarity and support for victims and survivors of domestic violence. Purple t-shirts will be available at the event for $10.

The mayor will read a proclamation, balloons will be released, and local first responders will sound sirens to serve as reminders of the negative impact domestic violence has in our community.
