In his address to lawmakers at the start of the legislative session now underway, Governor John Bel Edwards followed up on his campaign promise to seek a higher minimum wage in our state. "$7.25, simply put, is not a living wage in 2016. Therefore I am proposing a modest increase in the state's minimum wage so that we can give folks a fair shot.", the governor told lawmakers, adding that 40 per cent of Louisiana's families don't make enough to cover basic monthly expenses. The governor's proposed hike to the minimum wage is $8 an hour. Edwards also pushed for expanding Medicaid and reforming our state's education.
