Governor to Send National Guard to Area to Help Combat Flooding

Today, Governor Bobby Jindal authorized the activation of up to 200 Louisiana National Guardsmen on State Active Duty to support flood response efforts in Northwest Louisiana and assist local, parish and state emergency officials.

Governor Jindal said:

I authorized the active duty of these guardsmen to help ensure swift action during the ongoing floods in Northwest Louisiana. Our guardsmen are already working closely with affected parishes to help ensure the safety of our people and the efficiency of their response efforts, and we are grateful for their service. We will continue working to ensure parishes have what they need throughout this emergency, and our guardsman are a key asset in ensuring we carry out that mission.

In order to help combat the flood waters and protect local communities, Louisiana Guardsmen have begun hauling assets and positioning teams to potentially affected areas.Louisiana's Guardsmen are trained, ready and equipped to stand up at any moment to protect lives and property, maintain communications, and ensure the continuity of operations and government.
