Damage is widespread in Dallas, Arlington and Fort Worth from the hail storm that roared through last week leaving $300 million in damage to cars across the region.

Mark Hanna, a spokesman for the Insurance Council of Texas, estimates that 50,000 vehicles were damaged by the storms, which pounded cars and busted windshields from Fort Worth to Arlington.

Hanna tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, ``This is a catastrophic event for us.''

The hail fell in two bursts and varied in size from blueberries to tennis balls.

Community leaders don't know yet how many homes have been damaged, but Hanna says the amount of damage to homes could significantly increase the total damage amount.
