It turns out that August 26th is National Dog Day! Happy National Dog Day to my ride or die Olive. I had always wanted a dog of my own and on Christmas of 2011, my brother-in-law Fernando got me the cutest little mixed breed dog ever, a Shorkie, half Shih Tzu half Yorkie. All 2 pounds of what I thought was perfection. The reality? My little "perfect puppy" would give me a lot of chewed up shoes, toys, and trash that would decorate the floor of my townhouse on the regular. When I thought my sleepy little hometown had nothing more to offer me I packed up my mini-cooper with all my belongings that I could fit and Olive was there with me though it all. Olive has always been obsessed with car rides so I’m pretty sure she loved our epic road trip from California to the South.

Olive is a wanderer, as in her “free spirit” leads her to bolt out of any open door and rile up all the dogs down the street. I’ve ran through neighborhoods with no bra on and mismatched house shoes trying to get Olive to “get back in the freaking house” it's a horrid sight I can assure you.

Through it all, when there were days I felt I had no one, Olive was there, nudging my phone out of the way so I could use both of my hands to pet her. I know people say it all the time, and it may sound redundant. I really don’t know who saved who when I brought Olive home. What I can say is that I have the most loyal friend (unless if treats are involved then she'll ditch me). Even though my “puppy” has yet to hit the age where she’s “chilled out”, she's still so much fun to have around. I’m forever grateful to be able to be that “crazy dog lady” because of Olive. I am pretty sure crazy pet owners are some of my favorite humans. May we all take time to celebrate our wonderful dogs today, happy National Dog Day!
