A Haughton woman faces numerous charges for physical abuse on her own mother and various drug offenses.

In a news release, Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington said 43-year-old Belinda Roberts physically abused her 72-year-old wheelchair-bound mom. She had been living at her mother's residence as a caregiver for about four months.

Detectives found that early in the morning on January 22, Belinda abused her mother after the woman refused to give Belinda some of her prescription medication.

She allegedly removed her mother's oxygen tubes, rammed her wheelchair -- with her mother in it -- into a door, struck the woman several times in the back of the head, twisted her nose, poked her in the chest, and even forced her into the back seat of Belinda's vehicle and drove down the highway with the window rolled down, when outside temperatures were in the 30's.

Whittington said Belinda eventually robbed her mother of her prescription medication, and investigators found her in possession of marijuana, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. She was booked into the Bossier Maximum Security Facility for cruelty to the infirmed, domestic abuse battery with strangulation, aggravated battery, robbery, 2nd-offense marijuana possession, meth and drug paraphernalia possession.
