The Fight for Faith!

Arkansas State University is removing a Christian cross decal honoring former teammates from the back of its football helmets after a complaint that it violated separation of church and state.

Terry Mohajir, Athletics Director for ASU, said that he wanted to fight the decision to remove the cross decals, but after advice from the university's legal council he little choice but to have them removed.

“My job is to support our players and our coaches in their expression of any type of grief, and that’s what I was doing,” Mohajir said. He also said, “Any time our players have an expression of faith and wanting to honor two members of the football program, I’m 100 percent behind them."

The decals featured a cross with the initials of former player Markel Owens and former equipment manager Barry Weyer, who both died this year.
