I've always thought Shreveport was as great place for families having tons of festivals like the Red River Revel and places like the Sci-Port Discovery Center. So how does Shreveport stack up? It turns out, Shreveport isn't as family friendly as I thought.

WalletHub.com did the research and according to their findings, Shreveport is the 8th worse city for families out of the 150 metros studied. That seems a bit strong at first glance, but when you look at the stats, you start to open your eyes. Our high crime, divorce and poverty rates all play a part in the ranking. We rank 132nd when it comes to health and safety. Add the fact we sit in 135th place for education and child care means we have a lot of room for improvement.

But before you get too down on our great city, know that Birmingham, AL is the worst on the list! That might be some consolation for some, but I for one am sick and tired of ending up on the wrong end of these studies. If we're ever going to grow as a metro, we've got to get our priorities straight. Children are our future and we certainly won't attract new comers if we don't have the infrastructure to nurture families.
