You've gone shopping, bought the eggs and coloring dye, and now you're ready to boil the eggs for your Easter egg hunt. So, how long is too long before eating those eggs?

According to LSU AgCenter Extension Educator Connie Aclin, boiled eggs shouldn’t be eaten after sitting out for over two hours. If for some reason the egg hunt at your house gets delayed, don’t take a chance and let the kids eat any eggs that have been in the yard more than two hours.

Boiled eggs will keep a week in the fridge. If you don't boil eggs very often, here is a little refresher on how to do it right.

The recommended method of hard-cooking eggs:

  • Put the eggs on the range in cold water, then cover.
  • Bring the water just to a boil and turn off the heat.
  • Allow large eggs to remain in the hot water for 15 minutes, then cool them promptly in cold running water.
  • Eggs will then be hard-cooked without having the greenish color around the yolk.

Have a safe and Happy Easter!
