Our prayers continue to be with the family of Staff Sgt. Richard Vazquez who died after his unit was attacked in Afghanistan.

A crowd gathered at the Mansfield High School football stadium to pay respects to Vazquez and his family. Military families from all over the region paid tribute to the fallen soldier. The candlelight vigil gave the family a chance to share memories of Richard. The Shreveport Times has a wonderful photo gallery of the event if you would like to see more of the pictures. Vazquez' mother Teresa Paddie and other family members cried as the stadium lights dimmed and candles were raised in his honor. Vazquez joined the Army in 2004 and was a Green Beret. He had been assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group based in Florida. We say thanks to the Vazquez family. Theresa, we continue to pray for you and thank you for the amazing sacrifice your son and your family have made.
