We love Shreveport Parks and Recreation aka SPAR. They're always bringing fun stuff to our community, helping to keep us happy and healthy! Check out everything going on through SPAR here for the weekend of May 16, 2014! From Free Fridays Forever, to Movies and Moonbeams and our local pools, SPAR has you covered!

Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation (City of Shreveport) announces upcoming events:

  • On Friday, May 16th, from 5 PM to 8 PM in the Red River Entertainment (450 Clyde Fant), come join us under the Texas Street Bridge for live music featuring Red Thread.  The live music is part of the Free Fridays Forever concert series sponsored by SPAR.  For more information, contact SPAR Event Services at 318-673-5100.
  • Then, head to Mamie Hicks (200 Mayfair) for Movie & Moonbeams showing of “Iron Man 3” beginning at 8 PM on Friday, May 16th.  The movie is PG-13.  The public is encouraged to bring chairs and blankets to view the film.  Admission is free.  Movies & Moonbeams is a presentation of the City of Shreveport and features films presented in an outdoor setting on a large screen that utilizes digital technology to provide theater-quality picture and sound.
  • SPAR is also hosting two pool open houses this weekend.  From 11 AM to 1 PM on Saturday, May 17th at Airport Park (6500 Kennedy) and then from 2 PM to 4 PM on Sunday, May 18th at David Raines (2920 Round Grove).  SPAR pool open house activities will provide youth and adults an opportunity to meet the lifeguards for the upcoming summer season.   Shreveport Fire Department will also conduct water safety demonstrations.  Since May is National Water Safety month, the open houses are a great way to educate our community on the importance of pool safety as well as our upcoming swim season (including swimming lessons and water aerobics).  The open houses are free and open to the public.
